Yajima, Gogaku [Yashima Gakutei] (1760-1849)

Rendered by scholars as Yashima Gakutei, rather than cited as Yajima Gogaku at the Library of Congress, Yashima is represented in the Walker collection by 6 compositions dated between 1818 and 1830. He was a pupil of both Hokkei and Hokusai who specialized in surinomo, and was also known for his poetry.

The ukyio-e are listed alphabetically by Japanese title; title meanings are noted when available. Titles link to a description page for each woodcut at the Library of Congress (LOC) where high resolution digital files are also accessible.
